Announcements for Sunday, 1st June, 2008

 1.       APPEALS FOR MYANMAR & SICHUAN

On behalf of Cardinal Zen and the diocese, we would like to express our thanks to all those who contributed so generously over the past two weeks for the victims of the cyclone in Myanmar and the earthquakes in Sichuan. In case anyone who wishes to make a further contribution, there is a box at the back of the church.

2.       FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Following on from last Sunday, a reminder Sr Caroline’s first priorities when she returns in July will be to start organising instruction sessions in September to prepare the children for their First Holy Communion. There is an acute resourcing problem; and spaces are limited. Registration will start soon; and those children who have been attending Service of the Word regularly and who have reached seven years of age or thereabouts will be invited to register. Children who have not attended Service of the Word are at a severe disadvantage; and this also places a strain on Sister and her volunteer helpers. Again, we strongly urge parents to think well ahead in preparing their children, by encouraging them to attend Service of the Word regularly so that when the instruction classes start they are well placed to gain from these.

3.       FATHERS’ DAY.

Fathers’ Day falls this year in two weeks time on 15th June. We have had two successful bowling events in previous years; but this year we have organised a “rock climbing” event on the climbing wall at TST WMCA on Salisbury Road. Would all dads wishing to attend this function, please give your names and details to any Parish Council member after mass. This is a popular pastime and the dads will help the qualified supervisors to ensure a safe and fun-filled afternoon!

We will start at 1:30pm to give you time to get some lunch first and will last a couple of hours. Although there are refreshment facilities at the YMCA, no food can be taken into the climbing area. Further details will be given next week. The children should wear sportive attire with long pants and thin sport shoes! So dads, please give mum a rest and let your children entertain you with their climbing skills for the afternoon!
